Mandarin House Students Spring Blossom Discovery Trip

Rather than keep our students cooped up in the classroom we at Mandarin House like to make sure that our learners have first-hand experience of Chinese culture, it’s just one of the many things that make us China’s leading Chinese language school. This year, our Mandarin House students joined in proudly celebrating our school’s 10th anniversary this spring at the 2014 Shanghai Sheshan Chinese Blossom Discovery Trip. After ten years of expert, accredited Mandarin teaching and tens of thousands of successful students we decided to celebrate in a very special way.

For ancient Chinese poets the peach blossom was a great symbol of love and as winter turns to spring ten hectares of peach gardens near the highest peak of Shanghai are in full, glorious bloom. In addition to the sea of pink flowers to enjoy there were also lots of traditional crafts and performances that gave our students a new understanding of the season in China.

There were plenty of activities to participate in on this trip, including bamboo knitting, paper cutting, and sculpture. Students got up close and personal with the craftspeople and were able to try their hand at different traditional arts and chat with them about their lives and goings on in the countryside. We also had the chance to enjoy the sights while picking tea leaves that we dried and tasted while watching the impressive folk drum performance. All in all, the trip was a great success. Our students had a wonderful time exploring the sights and sounds of the blossom festival and Mandarin House’s next decade of Chinese language teaching is off to a great start.
